How To Get To Thassos Island
Thassos has two ferry boat ports and routes, Skala Prinos to/from Kavala and Limena (Thassos Town) to/from Keramoti. For the easiest route to either House Elena and Pension Giannis we recommend taking the ferry from Keramoti to Limenas. It is a faster route with frequent daily crossings and Limenas is closer to Kinira for your onward journey.
Thassos does not have an airport but is well serviced by Kavala Airport (Megas Alexandros – KVA) which is only 12 kilometres from Keramoti or 30 kilometres from Kavala city. Kavala Airport is mainly for package companies but does have some flights from other European countries during the summer. It has a daily service to Athens International Airport throughout the year.
Alternatively you can use Thessaloniki International Airport (SKG) which has regular flights from all over Europe all of the year, however you will need to either hire a car or take a coach for the onward 2 hour journey to Kavala.
The mainland ports which service Thassos, Kavala and Keramoti, are fortunate in that they are both only a few kilometres from the Egnatia Odos Highway (European Route E90 or A2). The E90 stretches from Igoumenitsa on the western Ionian coast of Greece, right through the north of Greece to Alexandroupolis on the Turkish border and Aegean coast.
How To Get To Kinira
From Limenas take the island ring road in the direction of Panagia/Potamia (clockwise/going east), pass Panagia/Potamia and the next village is Kinira, a total of 20 kilometres.
From the port of Skala Prinos, again take the ring road in a clockwise direction following the signs for Limenas (Thassos Town), bypass Limenas and continue as per the above directions.
You will find House Elena on the right hand side of road as you enter the village, it has signs and is opposite Hotel Maradon.
Pension Giannis is a further 1.5 kilometres on from House Elena, you will go around a very sharp bend in the road, 100 metres after this you will see the sign for Pension Giannis on the left hand side of the road.
There are frequent buses that can take you all around Thassos Island. If you prefer there are many car, scooter, motorcycle and bicycle rental businesses on the island.
House Elena and Pension Giannis are both close to the sea, restaurants, super markets and bus stops.
Thassos is relatively small, the distance around the island is 97 kilometres, making it easy to see all of the sights and attractions on offer.
