House Elena
“House,” as in heartwarming, welcoming, and cozy to the last detail, exactly what a great host would want for any guest. A place where “welcome!” sounds as sweet as the Thassian honey – if you haven’t tried it, wait until you arrive – and “see you again” is warmer than the midday sun of July. A place where you can enjoy a cup of Greek coffee or a homemade dessert on a tray with a big glass of cold water while sitting on the balcony overlooking the sea. When things are simple, it is easier to keep them as memory and harder to forget them…
“Elena,” as “Mrs. Eleni.” Thassos is her birthplace -she was actually born in Kinira. Although she has spent part of her life in Germany, the island has always stayed close to her heart.
Her wish was to inspire the same feelings in those who visited it. And one day, her dream - House Elena - came true in 1986. Since then, a lot has happened: Drachma changed to Euro, the internet came into our lives, the fax disappeared, and many more. Mrs. Eleni herself became a mother and then a grandmother, apart from a hostess.
Some things, however, remained the same and unchanged: her love for the sea, her creativity in the kitchen, her devotion to hospitality, her love for flowers. She puts passion in everything she does during the day: in the homemade honey and oil, in the two-shot Greek coffee that she will treat you, in the fried fish whose tempting smell can reach the shore.
If you let her choose, she will tell you about her two favorite beaches: Paradise and Kinira. She can’t live without the sea, and if we were to approach it scientifically, there is an explanation for that: she was born on March 13 (she’s a Pisces…).
